The Spiritual Depth of Halloween: An Invitation for Reflection and Transformation

As autumn leaves fall and the chill in the air signals the approaching winter, Halloween, or Samhain as it was originally known, emerges on the horizon. While this festival is often viewed through the lens of costumes, candies, and children's glee, the occasion also invites a deeper spiritual reflection, resonant with the teachings and philosophies of the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa. The Turn of the Season and the Turn Within Historically, Halloween marked the onset of darker and colder days, signaling a shift from the active, outward energy of summer to the contemplative, inward energy of winter. Just as the earth goes through cycles, so do we as individual expressions of the divine Spirit. This season calls us to be still with ourselves, to delve into our inner realms, and to prepare for the period of introspection that winter naturally brings. Honoring Our Shadows The teachings at the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa, encourage us to face our own shadows to ex...

Forgiveness Clears the Way to Self Love

Our Wednesday Evening Service on September 6th explored the power of forgiveness as a spiritual practice that lifts our internal barriers to feeling the natural and limitless love of our Self.  As we've been exploring this month, Love--especially love that comes from our wise Self--is always with us, even if we aren't aware it's there. Forgiveness is a powerful practice that helps us to let go of resentment, shame, and anger, all emotions that can block us from feeling that Self-Love.  Forgiveness is always for us, and never about letting the other person off the hook for any harm they may have caused us. It's about us finding our way to a feeling a freedom from whatever burdens we may have been carrying.  I shared a worksheet with a three step process you can follow to help with the process of letting go. That worksheet is linked below, along with a nice summary of what forgiveness is, and is not.  Three Steps to Forgiveness Worksheet What Forgiveness Is and Is Not ...

Tonight with Dr. Edward - Unlocking Inner Peace Through Spoken Chanting: A Journey into Meditation

Greetings! Today, I have the pleasure of sharing a transformative experience that has touched my life deeply and led me to discover the power of meditation. If you're someone who has ever struggled with the idea of meditation, you're not alone. I, too, was once perplexed by it until I learned that meditation takes various forms and doesn't follow a one-size-fits-all approach. My journey into meditation was a result of necessity, as I found myself in the role of a meditation teacher. This compelled me to explore different techniques and approaches that resonated with me and those I was guiding. One of the most impactful methods I encountered was chanting – a practice that has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions. Chanting, in my experience, is a profound way to engage in meditation. It aligns with the Science of Mind philosophy, which uses repeated affirmations to redirect the mind toward positive thoughts and beliefs. The great thinker Ernest Holmes emphasized the impo...
