The Season for Nonviolence Begins: "The Heart of Nonviolence", 7 pm, Wednesday, January 31

Artwork courtesy of Association for Global New Thought In 1998, Mahatma Gandhi's son Arun introduced a resolution in the United Nations to mark the anniversary of his father's death on January 30, 1948, and the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., on April 4, 1968. The Season for Nonviolence is now in its 20th year, with events around the world. Here in Sonoma County, our season begins with a program at the Center for Spiritual Living on Wednesday, January 31, at 7 pm. Kazu Haga, Founder of the East Point Peace Academy, is the keynote speaker.  He is joined by Lyndsey Burcina, a student who facilitates listening circles at Elsie Allen High School; and Dion Martin, who will share his story of adopting nonviolence while in prison. There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers and also to reflect on how nonviolence might be a part of your daily practice. Co-sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Sonoma County.

"How to Use It", Dr. Kim Kaiser, 7 pm, January 24

Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash Wednesday, Dr. Kim completes his four-week series on "The Heart of the Science of Mind." He discusses "How to Use It", based on the fourth chapter of the Science of Mind textbook. Central to Dr. Holmes' teaching is the importance of not just knowing the material but applying it to one's life. As he says, let's not "indulge in too much theory and too little practice". Our free Wednesday Night Wisdom class begins promptly at 7 pm in the sanctuary. All are welcome, even if you have never attended another class. For those who wish to center in stillness before class, the meditation room upstairs is open from 6:15 pm to just before class.

Wednesday Night Wisdom, "What It Does", Dr. Kim Kaiser, 7 pm, January 17

Photo by Karl JK Hedin on Unsplash At Wednesday's free class on January 17, Dr. Kim invites us to appreciate how Life, The Thing Itself, creates in response to our thoughts and beliefs.  "What we draw from It we must draw through the channel of our own minds." Wednesday Night Wisdom begins at 7 pm in the sanctuary where all are welcome.  The meditation room upstairs opens at 6:15 before class.  We are now recording the class, beginning with the second class.  CDs are available for sale in the bookstore.  As always, your love offerings are gratefully received.

Wednesday Night Wisdom, "The Way It Works", Dr. Kim Kaiser, 7 pm, January 10

Photo by Timothy Eberly on Unsplash Last week we began our free Wednesday Night Wisdom classes with Dr. Kim Kaiser's four-week series on "The Heart of Science of Mind".  Together we explored our concepts of God, Spirit, The Thing Itself, as well as our illusions of being separate from that One. This week the class focuses on how "The Thing Itself" (one name for Spirit, God, Creator ... ) works, how we can align and co-create by tapping into Its infinite wisdom and possibilities. All are welcome -- if you missed last week's class, come anyway.  We'll have copies of Dr. Edward's adaption of our textbook's first four chapters, The Science of Mind for Beginners available.  Class begins promptly at 7 pm in the sanctuary.  The meditation room upstairs from the social hall is open from 6:15 to 6:50 for those who wish to sit in silence before class.

Wednesday Night Wisdom - Class begins January 3, 7 pm

Have you wondered about the teachings of Science of Mind and how to apply them in your life? There is a great opportunity to explore these and other questions in the New Year.  In celebration of 100 years of Science of Mind, short free classes are being offered most Wednesday nights of the year. Dr. Kim Kaiser begins with a four-week class on the heart of Science of Mind, based on the first four chapters of the Science of Mind textbook.  The classes meet in the sanctuary from 7 to 8 pm.  Dr. Edward Viljoen follows in February with an 11-week class focused on Ernest Holmes' book It's Up to You.  All are welcome.  There are no prerequisites or fees although love offerings will be gratefully received.  See you in class!

"Being True to Self", Rev. Janet Tobin, 7 pm, Wednesday, December 27

What gives us a feeling of being at home? How do we decide what’s right for us personally? It’s about belonging, but also about integrity. Do we live in alignment with our values? Are we true to who we truly are? This year we have been talking about Values Based Spiritual Living.  At the closing of the year, we have an opportunity to review how well these ideas are working for us. Join Rev. Janet Tobin on December 27 for a look at what it means to be true to your Self. Our Wednesday evening service begins at 7 pm in Waggoner Hall, North Wing.  Room 11 is open as a meditation hall at 6:30 if you would like to sit in stillness before the service.  All are welcome to the service and to the snacks and conversation that follow.

"The Heart of Integrity", Rev. Tara Steele, 7 pm, Wednesday, December 20

Photo by William Bout on Unsplash There is a place within where heart and mind are one, a wholeness, an alignment that is far more than the sum of the two parts. This is "the heart of integrity" as Rev. Tara describes it. Wednesday she'll talk a bit more about what this means and how we recognize and tap into this place of deep peace, grace and presence. The service begins at 7 pm in Waggoner Hall. There is meditation next door in Room 11 starting at 6:30 pm.  All are welcome.
